Open Battlefield

Sex War, Coming out, Offense/Defence Phases of war as metaphor for steps in the path to self-discovery and sexual identification. Empowerment as a goal pursued violently inside oneself. By means of selfrighteousness, boldness and no reserve for casualties. A martial accomplishment leading to self- recognition and the prospect of finding peace and calm within. The primary research of this project goes about searching a way to interpret phases of war on an abstract and emotional level. The intention behind the resulting textile designs is to transport a feeling without use of symbols, or figurative values.

The creation of a distinctively readable mark drawn only from the expressive potential within the free use of form, colour and a variety of textile embellishing techniques. Key motifs in the designs can be summed up in lines, hatching, gradients, also texturized photo images and frottage.

Strategies and Alliances

On this train of thought a collaboration with Martin Wieser was initiated. The idea behind the cooperation went beyond employing the designed textiles as materials for the tailoring of fashion pieces. It aimed to develop a collection which can be read on two different narrative levels, visually differentiating the themes of conflict and contraction. Formally this takes place in the juxtaposition of the very solid and sombre textiles and cuts of the outfits exterior and the heavily embellished and strongly charged designed textiles applied as linings interiorly. Both paths describe a climax in their own way, but leave decisions of chronology and metering to the final user of the piece, by allowing flexibility in styling and the possibility of wearing the lined pieces inside out.
